The local business community is picking up the entire tab for July Jamz in its third season.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director said the Chamber went to the city for sponsorship the first year of the popular outdoor concert event.

“We opened sponsorships last year,” she said. “But we also had to buy trusswork for the stage, and the foam machine, so the city helped us out again.” When she told the Andalusia City Council Tuesday night the Chamber has secured sponsors to cover this year’s costs, they gave her an ovation.

“They were so excited,” she said.

The Chamber also has finalized the talent to be featured in this year’s events, all of which are set on the grounds of the historic Springdale Estate in downtown Andalusia. Admission is free.

Opp’s Martin McDaniel Band will headline the first event, set for Thurs., July 6. Today’s Yesterday Band also will perform on opening night.

Issues will perform on July 13, and Duffy said the Chamber also has added Kenny Heard to the lineup for that night.

“He started out playing with Issues,” she said. “So I think he also will sit in with them on some numbers.”

On July 20, Tripp Bass’s band, Just N’ Tyme will perform, as will Erica Franklin. Bass said members of his group played together years ago, and are getting back together this summer.

To close out the concert series on July 27, Conner Sowards, Pieces of Patsalagi and 10-6 Upstairs will perform.

All events are set from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

The Andalusia City Council on Tuesday had the first look at its audit for fiscal year ending September 2016, which had no findings.

Melissa Pierce of Rabren, Odom, Pierce and Hayes reviewed the audit and said:

  • The city increased its net worth in FYE 2016 by $1.2 million.
  • Spent $200,000 more in FYE 2016 than in FYE 2015, which is a less than 1 percent increase, and hless than inflation.
  • Absent restructuring its airport debt and adding $2 million in debt for its downtown projects, the city reduced long-term debt by $2.3 million, and is on track to retire approximately $8 million in long-term indebtedness in the current quadrennium.
  • The city is already realizing a return on its investment in downtown for Big Mike’s and the Clark Theatres.

Mayor Earl Johnson said the council will likely receive and approve the final version of its audit at its next meeting.
